DISH Network Packages Review

DISH Network was established in 1996 and has created a competitive edge against their main competitor DIRECTV.  DIRECTV at one time led the way in satellite offers and innovative technology.  However, they can no longer claim to have the best satellite and technology services as the once could.

DISH Network is currently giving more for the money offering more channels, upgrades and HD programming.  Right now if comparing DIRECTV’s and DISH Network’s basic package a consumer would save up 30 dollars receiving more with DISH’s basic package than DIRECTV’s.   DISH’s basic package includes Starz, HBO, and Cinemax included free whereas DIRECTV charges 14.99 additionally. Also DIRECTV charges 10 dollars extra for HD and DISH gives this option free.

The current promotion that DISH Network offers is awesome making it an obvious choice when choosing satellite television.  The promotion includes:

Additionally if you upgrade to DISH’s top 200 packages you will receive a free HD DVR Hopper with the package.  The Hopper allows up to six TV to record show simultaneously.  How cool is that?  This will eliminate any bickering amongst family members over who gets to watch what and any upset about recording different shows at the same time.  The Hopper allows features that have never been seen before.  They include:

  • Primetime Anytime that gives you instant On Demand access to all your favorite primetime shows on ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in HD
  • Watch 4 separate HD programs on different TVs4x the HD hard drive storage space than cable
  • Begin watching live TV in one room, pause and continue watching the same show in another without any specialized equipment

With deals and technology like this DISH Network has set their presence in stone in their market.  It will be exciting to see what technology and surprises are in store for us in 2013 and the future.

DISH vs. Time Warner Cable: Package Options

DISH Network provides great packages at great cost no matter what the misleading commercials state on various other satellite and cable providers.  I have been a customer of DISH Network for years and have stuck with them even when things got rough when networks were being negotiated.  When you get right down to comparing Time Warner Cable and DISH Network, you get a much better deal with DISH.

I have been a DISH Network customer for three years previously being a TWC customer.  With DISH Network’s basic package you can get free HBO, Cinemax and Starz free and TWC charges an additional 13.00 per month.  Besides this additional fee for favorite movie channels, TWC basic start is 28 dollars more than DISH’s.

Also included in my basic package is free HD where TWC limits this option.  DISH also allows customers to have free video on demand and TWC charges 10 more.  TWC also charges 5 dollars a month for DVR availability.  When you add this up TWC cost more 56.00 dollars more than DISH to get a basic package.  With that additional cost of having TWC, I could upgrade my DISH package getting more for my money or even pay a bill.

Additionally when comparing DISH and TWC, DISH allows Sirius Radio in the basic package. TWC does not.  Moreover, I am able to watch my favorite shows on the go anywhere with my iPhone, DISH Network includes this option in my basic package, and TWC does not.  My husband is also thrilled that DISH includes regional network sports channels whereas TWC does not include this option.

Then the last benefit of the basic package is being able to have 28 International programming choices and TWC only gives ten International programming choices.  What a great benefit for those individuals benefitting from International Programming.

When you really look at the comparison of both television providers, DISH Network comes out on top.  The basic package DISH Network offers saves money including more options than TWC.  This is the reason why I have been a loyal customer of DISH Network for three years.

Comcast Makes a Happy Customer

Recently Comcast bundle packages became available in my area.  Now TWC does not own the market here in North Carolina.  I was excited to sign up for Comcast Xfinity triple play package.  IT gives me everything I need with just one company.  This package gives me the freedom to have one bill at the end of the month with all my needs verses receiving two separate bills with my previous service providers.  The price is unbeatable in my opinion for what you receive for a year.  First, I get unlimited nationwide calling with my phone service.  This means I am able to call my best friend in TN not having to worry about how long we talk or what my long distant charges will be. My husband is able to call his in-laws in New York and New Jersey to see how they are doing.  This has been especially important feature to him over the last couple of weeks after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy in those two states.  The internet speed is great especially since it has PowerBoost technology.  I am able to access and stream live videos.  Moreover, it came with Norton Security Suite to protect me from any nasty internet or computer viruses.   It also gives me the opportunity to watch shows on my laptop when my husband is hogging the television.  With my package, I get over 80 digital channels including all my favorite music channels, my son’s favorite cartoon channels, sports channels, and movie channel.  Additionally, I get Showtime free for three months.  One more thing I love about my new Comcast subscription is there homepage where I can sign in synchronizing all my Xfinity services with my internet service or home page.  I can check my voicemail, text messages, email, get Xfinity on demand and check my home security system if I had one from virtually anywhere.  How cool is that!  As long as I have a laptop, I can get on my stuff anywhere.  Another added bonus was the free 100-dollar prepaid Visa gift card that I received for signing up with Comcast.  The best part is that all of this only cost my 89 dollars a month.  This is the best price around.  Thanks to Comcast, I get all my services at an affordable price and the gift card will be paying for my Thanksgiving dinner this year.

DIRECTV Offers More

My husband and I have had every type of cable and satellite system offered in this area.  We have had Dish Network, DIRECTV, and Time Warner Cable.  We have switched many times seeking the best deals and service delivery.  My husband generally would get frustrated with rising prices on our bills after a year of service.  This trend would sometimes go up a little every month when we were cable customers.  I would get tired of the constant interruption in services whenever they were network wars with the satellite companies.  It was FX and AMC that seemed to cause the most problems.

Customers would complain about something and switch to the company who did carry the channel including us.  Eventually the satellite company would get the channel again because of the decrease in sales.  After many years of switching back and forth, my husband and I have settled with DIRECTV.  In general, we feel that DIRECTV does give the best package deals and service delivery.  In regards to the best customer service TWC definitely falls below par and there is not much of a difference in DISH or DIRECTV.

Both of these satellite companies have good customer service.  Sure sometimes they both have bad days now and then but generally I have not found much of a difference.  It really is about what DIRECTV delivers in their package items including more channels, sports packages and content that we enjoy.

My parents switched to DISH Network on an impulse after a bad situation with a customer service representative with DIRECTV.  It has been about 3 months since they switched.  When my mother was at our home this past weekend she expressed how much she really missed DIRECTV and wished that she never had switched just because of one bad experience.  She had no huge complaint about DISH except that the package they pay for is just not as great as DIRECTV.

Previously they were loyal customers of DIRECTV for ten years without ever switching and had good customer service for ten years.  I would have to say that is a great record of accomplishment for DIRECTV.  In the end, it is all about who has the best packages for your life and with all the different options that DIRECTV offers it just makes good sense to be their customer.

Dish Network Supplies the Best Plans

Everything in this high-speed world comes down to a choice and some sort of plan.  We have plans for cell phones, alarm systems, insurance, and of course television.  Then adding to the plan predicament and choice of choosing something, we have packages within those plans offering bundling deals and internet to our cell phone and wireless detection.  Technology is supposed to make our lives easier and in many cases it does, but sometimes it can be a pain in neck to cipher through all the techno mumbo jumbo and fast-talking sales people.

What happened to the concept of simplicity?  Yes, I may sound like I was born in the forties, but I was born in the eighties.  No matter the era I was born, I still like it simple and to the point.  I get so mixed up when hearing about all the upgrades and package choices especially with my television viewing.  I want what I need and nothing more.  I want to be able to get basic television minus all the sports and maybe throw in some movie channels along with a DVR tool.

This then leads me to do research which can be a daunting task in itself especially since everybody is always offering some sort of sign on bonus or free upgrade for set amount of months.  I guess in the end I really strive to get my needs met and save as much money as I can.

I also do not like to play games and tricks on the cable and satellite sales people making them think that I am unhappy with another service or their services to get something for free only to lose it in a matter of months.  I just want consistency.  This is why I love Dish Network.

Dish Network allows me to have free HD channels included in my package unlike DIRECTV.  I get free DVR included in my package unlike Time Warner who charges five bucks a month for that option.  Dish Network gives me international programming up to 28 different languages unlike DIRECTV only giving about nine languages.  This alone speaks volumes about diversity options.  Dish Network allows me to have service anywhere if I every decided to relocate.  I cannot say the same about cable companies.    Dish Network has the lowest basic prices as well then the other companies and giving me the most for what I buy at 24.99 a month.

Remember when choosing all the plans and packages that are abundant in our lives choose what fits your lifestyle the best and saves you the most money over the long run.

The Right Choice Eliminates Future Headaches

When searching for the right satellite or cable package for your home entertainment needs can be extremely discouraging.  First, all of the cable and satellite companies always have some sort of special advertising in competition with another company.  All of the companies usually brag about their deals compared to their competitors.  Usually all of them boast they have the better technology and some of them do.  Most of them make comparisons describing why their services are better trying to denigrate the competitor’s customer service capabilities.

In reality, they have all experienced problems at one time or another receiving bad customer service reviews.  It is unrealistic to think that all of these companies have perfect customer service.  Customer services is a great benefit when choosing satellite or cable and as it stands research suggest that Dish Network and Time Warner has an overall better customer service experience.

They all offer great packages whether you compare tv channels options or not.  All of them can give you a package that you want for a price whether it is higher or lower than the competition.  It really comes to down to the access, availability, and affordability.  The three A’s are really what potential subscribers and discontent subscribers need to pay attention to when signing on or switching television providers.

Cable companies have great service options and internet bundling packages but they are not always available in your areas of residence thus making it inaccessible.  Satellite on the other had can be accessed anywhere and usually have prompt hook up within a week of subscription.   All of them have relatively competitive rates but what really needs to be a point of interest is longevity.  Often times after a year rates start to increase so be mindful of this and ask questions to the sales representatives.  Make sure they explain how service options and rates will increase in the future.

Satellite companies like Dish Network and DIRECTV have great packages usually giving free DVR whereas TWC and Comcast charge a little extra every month.  Satellite companies are the only providers giving you full access across the country but cable companies offer better internet service.

When choosing television providers make sure to ask, the right questions choosing a package that you need eliminating any of the extra stuff not needed.  Make sure to ask about rate increases and choose what you can afford instead of what sounds good.  Asking the right questions can decrease the amount of headache down the road when things begin to change.

Making the Right Satellite or Cable TV Choice

Your Cable Choice and the Money Savings

In a world of competitive marketing and advertising, it is hard to know what cable company is better and who gives the best offers.  Well to sum it up probably none of them really, because they are all connected to a monopoly in some way.  However, the best thing most want to focus on is what they really want and to save a little money in the process.

Additionally, I found it difficult in researching companies like Time Warner Cable and Comcast on the internet because of the abundant amount of negative reports and reviews.  This makes it hard to sift through finding the most accurate and basic information needed to make a good decision.  However, I did find a great article in Consumer Reports this June describing what these companies offer and how best to save our hard earned dough.

With companies like Time Warner Cable and Comcast Consumer Reports, suggest doing a little bargaining before subscribing or bundling to save the most.  Next, they were very accurate when describing the rising rates of cable companies like the ones mentioned and what there consumers did to get these rising rates in check.  The simplest answer was to threaten to cancel or suggest switching to a satellite provider.  This grabs their attention and they will transfer you to customer retention.

To be honest why wouldn’t they just save the time and effort when it comes down to 5-10 dollars a month and just reduce your rate or give you something extra special like a movie channel for free.  It’s not that difficult and it pleases customers.

Another option to save money with cable companies is to possibly go basic and drop the DVR option.  Most of us really do not need the DVR option when we really think about it.  It will be like the old days when we actually got excited to see a show and made time to watch it if it was important.

Comcast is still leading the way in high-speed internet and Time Warner Cable has superior customer services in comparison.  They both offer bundling deals and both have rising rates as time goes by.   Most of the time deciding on these two is not even a competition in some areas but soon with the merging of Verizon with these two giants knowing which one you want will be more important.

The most important thing in these economic times is which one will you save the most money when first signing up because it will help to balance out as rates begin to rise as time goes by.
